Without fair trials, Aung San Suu Kyi and the more than 1000 political prisoners are still languishing in Burmese jails. Aung San Suu Kyi has spent more than 11 of the past 17 years under house arrest despite the international community's clamor for her immediate and unconditonal release.
The '8888 Faces to Free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and All Prisoners of Conscience in Burma' is a visual petition where people can show support by affix their signatures, submit photos, or self portraits online or during activities by the Free Burma Coalition Philippines and the Initiatives for International Dialogue. |

Makati City, Philippines – Solidarity activists, mostly women under the Free Burma Coalition – Philippines (FBC-Phils) today staged a rally in front of the Myanmar (Burma) Embassy in Makati City as part of the international celebration of the 65th birthday of Burma’s democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi.
Born on June 19th, 1945, Aung San Suu Kyi is the world's only imprisoned Nobel Peace laureate. She has been under house arrest for almost 15 of the last 21 years by Burma's military regime.
FBC-Phils reiterated its call for the immediate and unconditional release of Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners in Burma.
“Calling for Aung San Suu Kyi's immediate and unconditional release is the best gift that we could offer on her birthday. We see her continued detention as an insult to justice and democracy,” Egoy Bans, FBC-Phils spokesperson said. |

PHILIPPINES - About a hundred solidarity activists under Free Burma Coalition – Philippines (FBC-Phils) today staged a protest action in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Makati City and denounced the Burmese junta's election laws, which according to the group is a mere strategy that “effectively excludes democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi and cripples all political opposition parties while putting the military government to greater advantage”. Said protest action in the Philippines is part of the global campaign on Burma’s 2010 Elections initiated by Burma democracy supporters around the world. |

(Mizzima) - Pro-democracy activists in the Philippines, keen to see democracy being ushered into military ruled Burma, have set three conditions for the 2010 elections to be free and fair. Egoy Bans, spokesperson of Free Burma Coalition-Philippines, a network of Philippino activists for Burma told Mizzima that ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), the United Nations and the international community must work together to ensure three minimum conditions for Burma. They are - release of the NLD leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and other political prisoners, cessation of hostilities against ethnic nationalities and political dissenters and to review the 2008 constitution, which is not of international standard. |
